Our Story
Medical Memories is dedicated to delivering resource materials to assist families during their life event/hospital visit. The hospital setting itself can be a source for both hope and distress to the ill child and his or her family. This new environment they face can feel like a foreign land. Medical terminology is a new language that is suddenly being mastered. The hospitalized child, surrounded by the sights, smells, sounds and rhythms of the medical environment, may feel transplanted into an alien culture.
Medical Memories brings together families, children's hospitals, and corporate sponsors to deliver My Hospital Scrapbook®. Many years ago we had a hospital experience and we embarked on working with a hospital to partner to create our first book. Since 2008 we have launched 5 other resources in 3 different languages, and have shipped books all over the U.S, Canada and New Zealand. All of these educational scrapbooks help the medical teams provide additional resources to the child facing this difficult scary experience.
Child Life
Child Life Specialists are trained professionals with expertise in helping children and their families overcome life’s most challenging events. Armed with a strong background in child development and family systems, child life specialists promote effective coping methods through play, preparation, education, and self-expression activities. They provide emotional support for families, and encourage optimum development of children facing a broad range of challenging experiences, particularly those related to healthcare and hospitalization.
Because they understand that a child’s wellbeing depends on the support of the family, child life specialists provide information, support and guidance to parents, siblings, and other family members. They also play a vital role in educating caregivers, administrators, and the general public about the needs of children under stress.
Our mission is to help support Child Life Specialists!
